Jen is the founder and executive director of North Star Initiative, formerly known as L.I.G.H.T. (Local Initiatives aGainst Human Trafficking), a Pennsylvania based non-profit organization dedicated to seeing the end of modern-day slavery in our world, nation and county. North Star’s mission, also echoing Jen’s heartbeat is bringing restoration and healing for women rescued from human trafficking through the opening of a home, North Star Harbor.
Jen went to Lancaster Bible College, where she graduated with her B.S. in Bible and Biblical Counseling. After spending time working in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center for teens and nannying for a family, she served as a youth pastor’s wife working with and mentoring teens. Jen began to engage with human trafficking when she learned that it was happening internationally, working to raise awareness and funds for a safe haven in Nepal. As her research and training led her closer to the United States, she immersed herself in doing what she could to combat the issue within her own backyard. Her story “The Girl at the Window” drew her into a local investigation of a perceived trafficking ring that was operating less than 5 miles from her home. That was a pivotal point and led to the formation of North Star and its task force.
When Jen is not working for North Star, she is plugged into her family, local church, school and community. She also simply enjoys hanging out with her amazing kids and husband as well as extended family and friends. She is just an ordinary, every-day individual who said “Yes!” when God asked her to join with His heart and engage in the fight against human trafficking. “Ask God what He wants you to do for Him, I dare you. But only if you want an answer. You’ll never be the same.”
